Objective, Mission and Vision of Barak Festival: Peace, Progress & Potential
Objective: ‘Barak Festival’ is a signature event of the KRC Foundation. It will be organised at Silchar, Cachar, Assam, India from 10-12 January every year.
Mission: Through the ‘Barak Festival’, unite NE India and develop a socio-economic platform for the development of NE India by ‘connecting the unconnected’.
Vision: To make the ‘Barak Festival’ an important calendar event of NE India through a PPP model where all the stakeholders are taken into one platform.

Knowledge Resource Centre Foundation (KRC Foundation) is a diverse consulting organisation, a think tank that is very active in the North-eastern region of India and is committed to connecting and developing the region through its advocacy, media communication, and consulting activities.

Significance of Barak Valley
The southern region of Assam, ‘Barak Valley’, consists of three districts namely Cachar, Sribhumi (Karimganj) and Hailakandi. As of the 2021 census, the population of Barak Valley in Assam was 4,377,612.
Other details about the population of Barak Valley:
· Literacy: The literacy rate in Barak Valley is 76.27%.
· Cachar: The largest district in Barak Valley, with a population of around 19 lakhs.
· Silchar: The second-largest city in Assam and the headquarters of Cachar district.
· Multi-cultural: The Barak Valley is a multi-cultural, multi-religious, and multi-lingual
region.
· Manipuris: There are about 195 Manipuri villages in the Valley, with a population of about 2.5 lakhs.
Education, Culture, Trade & Commerce: Barak Valley is the hub of cultural bonhomie, education, trade and commercial activities of Assam.

How to Reach Silchar
AIR: Silchar is directly connected by AIR from Kolkata, New Delhi, Guwahati, Imphal, Shillong, and Dimapur.
RAIL: Silchar has the oldest rail network and is connected with New Delhi, Kolkata, Guwahati, Agartala, Lumding, Arunachal Pradesh
ROAD: Silchar is well connected by road with the five neighbouring states of Northeast, namely Guwahati, Shillong, Aizwal, Imphal, Agartala, Dimapur, Haflong etc.
RIVERWAYS: There has been a river navigation system in the Barak River for ages but due to technical reasons the system is not in use though there are government initiatives in the pipeline to restart the system.
